Company History
The origins of DIS Group of Companies go back to the turn of the twentieth century when the founder Joseph A. Farrugia produced brass mascots for ships at its Brass Foundry in the port area. Joseph A. Farrugia, diversified the operation into a steel fabrication and manufacturing company, renaming it Dolphin Forge in 1963.
The decades that followed saw a consistent expansion of the business. The Group expanded its business scope by becoming a supplier of material for the construction and metalwork industries. Consequently the fabrication of steel and metal became the Group’s main line of business, however, the diversification of trades and products continued on its upward growth trend.
In more recent years the Group upgraded its activity into the building and construction industry, offering a variety of products and services ranging from construction rental equipment such as tower cranes, concrete pumps and climbers, as well as hiring of scaffolding and shuttering.
In order to keep itself in the forefront as a leading supplier of steel to the local construction industry, the company invested heavily during year 2008/09 by introducing purchasing a fully automated rebar processing unit has been recently added, together with other state-of-the-art equipment for the production of steel, metal and other metallurgy products. Other production equipment includes an automated sheet bending machine, an automated CNC cutting machine, grinding machine, punching machine, welding machine, pipe-bending and laser-cutting machinery.
DIS Group of Companies have recently relocated to the brand new showroom and factory premises at Corradino Industrial Estate and is also investing in marketing the various integrated trades offered to its wide customer base. The new office buildings, factory and plant complex cover an area of over 10,000 square meters.
Year 2009 marks a milestone for the Group with the creation of DIS Steel Limited, DIS Heavy Construction Limited and DIS Combined Industries Ltd, complementing Dolphin Industrial Services Ltd and DIS Equipment Rental Ltd. The directors felt that it was fundamental for the company to continue the expansion program and increase its products and services into a ‘one-stop’ shop. These new developments will enhance our flexibility and efficiency towards our customers’ requirements.
